Beyond The Books

I’ve decided to set up this page where you, the reader, can ask me questions about any of my books. Is there anything you want to know about my characters, plots, themes?  Is there anything you want to ask me about any of my stories?  Are there any ‘behind the scenes’ secrets you want to know? Well, here’s your chance. Just ask me anything!

      Hi Paul:

What inspires me to write a story are the characters themselves… who these people are, what they want and how they’re going to go about getting what they want. Are they shy or bold; frustrated or bored; do they have past issues like Christina does in HER PERFECT REVENGE when she’s out for blood on the bully in high school? Or how about Bill Havenwood who deep down wants his father to love him just the way he is and not become who his father expects him to be? Or how about Romeo Boyd in WHY ROMEO HATES JULIET, a bored celebrity who’s lost his passion for life? What kind of combustible fire happens when he meets someone like Juliet, who can’t stand him and turns his life upside down? What happens then? So it’s not really about what the actual story is but who the characters are and what their personalities & issues are. Actions & plot always come out of that. Once I figure out who they are, then I know what’s going to happen to them… or at least, what I’m going to ‘make happen’ to them. LOL…

I loved this book, “Why Romeo Hates Juliet”, and the characters! One I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down.I rarely read for pure entertainment anymore, and was so glad that I chose this book to do this. Looking forward to more of your books, but I would love to see this one as a movie.

      Hi Susan:

Thank you! I’m so happy to hear how much you’ve enjoyed reading Why Romeo Hates Juliet. I certainly put those two stubborn brats through their paces, didn’t I? Maybe one day I can get it made into a movie. I’d love to see the beautiful beaches of Prince Edward Island up on the big screen, not to mention all the crazy antics those two pull on each other. I hope the story brought a smile to your face… and a few laughs!

      Thanks for writing me…

I too would love to see that novel as a movie on the big screen. My sister-in-law lives there and she absolutely loves PEI.

Do you have a new novel coming out soon this year.

I have enjoyed all three of your books thus far. Keep it up Anna! 🙂

          Hi Todd:

Thanks for writing me. I hope your sister-in-law thinks I’ve done justice to beautiful PEI in my story. It definitely is a beautiful place. I’d love to see WRHJ on the big screen too, especially all of those wonderful PEI beaches.

Right now, I’ve got a couple of projects I’m working on, but I doubt I’ll have anything to release this year. I’m sorry but I’m such a slow writer! I want to get it right, I guess.

Thanks for buying & reading all 3 of my books. I appreciate your enthusiasm for my work so much! It helps to keep me going & keep writing. You’ll never know how much that truly helps me.

Take care… and thanks again, Todd…

Hi 🙂 Ms. Mara, I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed and loved Her perfect revenge. I read it Last 2012 but until now, when I remember the book and the scenes in it still manages to make me smile and gush all over the book again.Thank you for writing a heartfelt,a Laugh out loud, and emotional(Yes!) book.

Hi Adriane: Thanks so much for writing and letting me know how much you enjoyed my book. It really brightened up my day to hear that!

I loved all three books, “Why Romeo Hates Juliet”, and the characters! One I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. The best book of the year for me I read for pure entertainment all the time now, and was so glad that I came across one of your books on BookBub. You’re a great writer and have told all my friends that read and they love all three books also. Looking forward to more of your books, but I would love to see this one as a movie. It would be a sell out I’m sure. Hopefully soon you’re have a new one out for me.

    • Anna Mara says

Thanks, Twyla! And thanks for spreading the word about my work. I’m happy to hear that your friends have enjoyed my books too. I am working on a new project right now but I still don’t know when I’ll be releasing it. I will do my best!

Hi Anna, I’m a huge fan of reading but as mum to 2 kids and working, it now takes me weeks to read just one book. However I started Perfect Revenge 2 weeks ago and loved it so much I thought I need to read more of this author’s work. So I started reading about Romeo & Juliet and became so caught up in their story I’ve done nothing else all week, I’ve been coming in after work and starting on the book!! Just about to start your 3rd book but I’m dreading finishing it as I’ll have withdrawal symptoms – do you think you can have your next book finished in a week? Lol ! Keep up the great work x

    • Anna Mara says

Thank you so so much for buying my books and reading them! I’m thrilled that
you like my “little stories”, as I call them & that you’re having fun with
them. It makes all of the hours spent at the computer worthwhile. And it
keeps me going too. I wish I could pump out books every week, like you’re
suggesting (lol) but I’m such a slow writer that it takes me a long time to
actually finish one. I was, up until a little while ago, working on 2 new
books actually but I’ve put them aside for a bit while I write a screenplay
for HER PERFECT REVENGE. I’ve had some interest in getting that made into a
film, so I’m currently writing that and we’ll see where it goes. I think I’d
like to see HPR up on the screen…

Thanks again for writing me, and so sorry about taking you away from your
life while you read WRHJ… Iol… That’s the best compliment you can ever
      give a writer!

I absolutely love your books and I’m always checking for new titles. I was quite disappointed there when I read you have put your two new books to the side for now, but elated you’re writing a screenplay for HPR. I’m just about to read that for the third time. I would love to see it on the big screen. x

        • Anna Mara says

Hi Lee-Ann… you’re reading HPR again for the third time??? Wow… thank you so much! That’s really nice to hear. I’m actually right now in the middle of deciding how to structure HPR into a movie… figuring out what scenes to leave in & what to take out. It’s a 400-something page book and I have to condense it into a 90 page screenplay. It’s a tough job but I hope I can come up with a script that will make my hardcore fans… like you… happy with the results. We’ll see how it turns out.

BTW… how about giving me some help? What are your favorite scenes from the book, just off the top of your head? That’ll give me an idea of what to keep in…

I loved all your books and keep checking in to see when you might be publishing another…… pressure lol

  7. Tracy says

I’m hooked! I just read HPR in one day because I couldn’t put it down! Some romantic comedy books can be really predictable but I honestly found myself with my jaw on the floor while reading. You kept me guessing and that’s what I love in a story! I see now you are working on a screenplay?! HPR would make a great movie for sure.

    • Anna Mara says

Thanks, Tracy! I’m happy to hear you had fun with HPR. I love surprising my readers with twists & turns; and it makes it more fun for me as a writer to keep coming up with those kinds of scenes. As to the screenplay, it’s actually finished and up on amazon, if you’re interested. It was challenging to boil down the book to less than 120 pages but I hope I’ve respected the story. Maybe we will see HPR as a movie one day. Who knows????
